An additional cast member has been announced for the live action movie Tokyo Ghoul, based on Sui Ishida’s manga of the same name. Kai Ogasawara, member of pop group Bullet Train (Chotokkyu) will be playing protagonist Kaneki’s best friend, Hide.

The movie Tokyo Ghoul takes place in a Tokyo that is overrun with man-eating ghouls and tells the story of the ups and downs of a university student named Ken Keneki, who has become a half-ghoul himself. Hideyoshi Nagachika (aka Hide) has a bright and bubbly personality that sharply contrasts with the introverted Kaneki. Even after Kaneki becomes part-ghoul, Hide continues to treat him as he always had.

Regarding his role, Ogasawara said that he played the character with the feeling that he hopes to help Kaneki keep his humanity. The movie will be released in Japanese cinemas on 29 July.
